EverQuest Legends Adds Playable Kerran at Launch on July 28
EverQuest Legends launches tomorrow, July 28, and players will be able to roll a Kerran when the game goes live. The feline race, originally tied to Kerra Isle in EverQuest, is being added as a playable option in this modernized take on the 1999 MMO.
Executive producer David “Sysyphus” Youssefi told Variety that these Kerran are not the version that was later translocated to the moon. In EverQuest lore, those moon-based descendants became the Vah Shir, who already exist as a separate playable race. For Legends, the team is going back to the Kerra Isle version and reworking them with updated animations, skins, and other changes needed for player characters.
Youssefi said the team knew early on that it wanted Kerran in the game, and even renamed Kerra Isle NPCs after the developers’ real-life cats. A very specific kind of MMO developer detail. The addition also fits the pitch for EverQuest Legends as a “1999 plus something else” project, with Game Jawn and Daybreak reimagining the original game rather than simply preserving it untouched.
The playable Kerran reveal was made during a San Diego Comic-Con panel called “From 1999 to EverQuest Legends.” According to the official post, a full video of the panel is planned for release later.
EverQuest Legends has already talked up other changes from the original MMO, including multiclassing and adjustments meant to better fit modern play habits, whether that means solo play or shorter sessions. The Kerran, though, are the clearest launch-day addition for longtime EverQuest fans who remember Kerra Isle and wondered if the catfolk would ever get their own turn as playable characters.
