Jagex Removes RuneScape Dragon Slayer II Trailer After Generative AI Concerns

Jagex has pulled a trailer for RuneScape’s upcoming Dragon Slayer II quest after players spotted details that appeared to point to generative AI use, including a six-fingered hand and boots that looked more like modern sneakers than medieval gear.

The trailer was shown around RuneFest 2026, but Jagex says it wasn’t made in-house. In a statement posted October 4 to its RuneScape and Old School RuneScape communities, the studio said it had taken the video down while it investigates.

Jagex said the trailer came from “a trusted external partner” that had explicitly confirmed generative AI would not be used. The studio apologized, noting that the extra finger was “pretty hard to explain away.”

The company also restated its current policy: it says it does not use generative AI to create its games, artwork, creative assets, marketing materials, merchandising, or partnership work, and does not knowingly allow partners to use it on Jagex’s behalf.

This is the second recent AI-related issue tied to an outside partner. Jagex previously addressed generative AI use in a collaboration with 100 Thieves, saying at the time that it would not have approved the material had it known.

Jagex now says it will overhaul its review process immediately after RuneFest. It also plans to work with and commission community creators to help tell the Dragon Slayer II story “to the standard befitting of such an update.”

The incident lands during a packed RuneFest period for the company, which also included reveals for RS4, RuneScape Reignited, a 2027 RuneScape roadmap, and an animated series.
