Heroes of the Storm adds Xal’atath in Patch 57, its first new hero in nearly six years

Heroes of the Storm has a new hero again. Patch 57 adds Xal’atath, Harbinger of the Void, as the game’s 91st playable character and its first fresh roster addition in almost six years.

Xal’atath is a ranged assassin built around the Dark Heart, a summonable object that lets her control space and punish longer fights. Her kit uses Mana as the main resource, with Soul Essence tied to her trait. Basic attacks build toward Void Volley, while Shadow Mark and Dark Heart Ritual work together to mark enemies, move the Dark Heart, and trigger detonations. Her mobility skill, Void Step, is now on E after PTR feedback.

She also has two Heroic options. Void Eruption channels and launches a large void orb that blinds enemies and can be powered up instantly through the Dark Heart. Void Convergence opens a portal that spawns void minions until the portal expires or is destroyed.

Xal’atath is available now for $7.99. The team says the plan is to make her purchasable with gold later this year, tentatively around the end of November. For launch, she’s limited to direct purchase while the team measures interest and sustainability for future additions.

There are also Twitch drops running from September 28 at 9:00 a.m. PT through October 5 at 11:59 p.m. PT for viewers watching Heroes of the Storm:

  • 2 hours: Epic Loot Chest
  • 4 hours: Legendary Loot Chest
  • 8 hours: Epic Deadly Chaos Wolf

The update follows a long stretch where Heroes of the Storm moved from maintenance mode into more regular balance work, reworks, battleground changes, and events. The team says another possible hero is in the works, though it’s not ready to share details yet. For now, the focus is Patch 57, player feedback, and a few smaller balance patches over the next couple of months.
