Hearthstone Patch 36.0.3 Targets Escape from Violet Hold’s Early Meta

Hearthstone’s Patch 36.0.3 went live Tuesday, July 21, bringing balance changes across Standard Hearthstone, Arena, and Battlegrounds after Escape from Violet Hold quickly reshaped the meta.

Blizzard says the new set has pushed plenty of fresh cards into play, but not evenly. Warlock, Death Knight, Priest, and Demon Hunter have fallen behind, while overall class and deck variety, especially at high ranks, is lower than the team wants. The update is aimed at opening up more viable options rather than just trimming the strongest decks.

A large batch of Escape from Violet Hold cards is being improved, with extra attention on classes that are underperforming. Azalina Soulsever is getting one of the patch’s biggest card updates, including a new Start of Game effect.

The patch also pulls back some of the current top performers. Blizzard specifically called out Two-Cost Rogue and Mug Shaman, with changes focused on reducing early-game blowouts.

Wild is getting heavier treatment. Warlock was already strong before Escape from Violet Hold, and Blizzard says Godfrey the Betrayer pushed the class’s presence even further. Godfrey is being banned in Wild, while several other Warlock cards are being nerfed.

Blizzard says it’ll keep watching how the meta settles after the update, so more follow-up changes could come if the patch doesn’t move things enough.
