Final Fantasy XI’s September Update Raises Free Trial Level Cap to 75

Final Fantasy XI’s September 2026 update is a smaller one, but it includes a notable change for new and returning players: the Free Trial character level cap is going up from 50 to 75. Square Enix also plans to remove the Free Trial’s time limit later in September, though an exact date wasn’t given.

Producer and director Yoji Fujito outlined the update in an official forum post, noting that this month’s patch is mainly focused on the third phase of Trust magic changes. The maximum number of alter ego points that can be assigned to each category will rise from 50 to 60. Fujito said the boosts aren’t meant to be dramatic, but should gradually strengthen alter egos over time.

Fujito also gave a brief update on the story replay feature mentioned earlier this year. It’s still in development and QA, but Square Enix says the number of missions and branching paths is making the work take time. More interim updates are planned.

On the bug-fix side, Square Enix believes the client freeze issue that appeared after the July version update has been resolved following measures added in last month’s patch. Fujito said feedback so far suggests the fix worked.

Several campaigns are also wrapping soon. The Wizardry Variants Daphne collaboration login item, Abyssal Mask, and the Take a Vana’Vacation This Summer campaigns are available until September 9, 2026, at 7:59 a.m. PDT. The September login campaign will add a new scythe weapon, while The Shadow Lord’s Dominion is continuing with another reward planned for late September.
