Fallout 76’s Backwoods update lands March 3 with reworked map activities and QoL tweaks

Fallout 76 is rolling out its Backwoods update on Tuesday, March 3, and it’s largely aimed at making the game’s map events better to run. Bethesda says these events are being reworked and will now be referred to as “activities,” with changes focused on rewards and how they play out.

According to the developer preview, activities should pay out more caps and generally offer better rewards and loot. The update also includes some tuning passes meant to smooth out older activities that have been rough around the edges.

One of the more noticeable gameplay changes is a new end-of-event twist for some activities: “party crashers.” These are miniboss spawns that can show up at the end, and the examples shown include a huge robot, deathclaws, and even Bigfoot.

Backwoods is also bringing a handful of quality-of-life updates. Bethesda calls out improved Pip-Boy performance, armor set rebalancing intended to make more sets worth using, and stash changes like armor weighing less while stored.

On top of that, a new season is coming with a Rip Daring theme tied to “Cryptids from Beyond the Cosmos.” The game hit a 24 hour peak of over 21,000 players on Steam.
