EVE Vanguard Devs Talk Weapon Design and Empire Identity

CCP Games has put out a new developer video focused on EVE Vanguard’s weapons, with the team talking through how it’s approaching gun design for the FPS set inside the EVE Online universe.

The main question is pretty direct: how sci-fi should the guns feel? According to the developers, the answer depends partly on the major EVE empires and how their visual identity carries over into Vanguard. Some weapons lean closer to grounded ballistic firearms, while others push further into energy weapons and laser-style “pew pew” territory.

The team also says it’s trying to keep familiar shooter archetypes intact. In other words, players should be able to look at a rifle or sidearm and have a decent sense of what role it fills, even if the weapon has EVE’s faction flavor layered on top.

The video also touches on new rifles and sidearms currently in development, weapons that didn’t make the cut, and the possibility of mixing faction attachments with other weapons. It sounds more like a design chat than a gameplay reveal, but for players watching how Vanguard is trying to turn EVE’s setting into a boots-on-the-ground shooter, it’s a useful look at the process.
