Etherwind’s first public Steam playtest starts April 10

Etherwind, an indie side-scrolling MMO from Accidental Cube, is getting its first public Steam playtest on Friday, April 10. The test will run through the weekend and gives players an early look at the game’s co-op PvE focus before its planned early access release.

According to the official post, this build is fairly limited. Players will be able to try four archetypes, Fighter, Vitalist, Archer, and Rogue, in a smaller section of the world, with the test mainly focused on party play and feedback.

Etherwind is a 2.5D MMORPG built around exploration, monster hunting, and social play. Its basic setup sounds a bit like MapleStory, though Accidental Cube is also pushing a classless progression system where your build comes from stats, gear, and skills rather than locking into a fixed role.

One of the bigger progression hooks, a rebirth system that carries character growth across multiple generations, won’t be available in this test. In the full game, rebirth resets skills and abilities while letting players build long-term power over time, with some skills retained through points earned in parties.

If you want in, the playtest is happening through Steam via the game’s Steam page. There’s still no firm early access date yet, just that it’s planned for later on.
