Embark parts ways with co-founder Rob Runesson after misconduct allegations
Embark Studios, the team behind The Finals and Arc Raiders, has parted ways with co-founder and chief creative officer Rob Runesson after allegations of sexual misconduct. In a statement shared through IGN’s report, the Stockholm studio said it had “mutually agreed to part ways” with Runesson.
According to Embark, it recently learned of allegations against an employee and brought in a law firm to run an external investigation. The studio said that investigation did not substantiate the allegations, but added that the situation had become “unsustainable,” leading to Runesson’s departure.
IGN reported that the allegations involve a female streamer in The Finals community. Citing an anonymous source, the outlet said the streamer became increasingly uncomfortable with alleged requests for sexual conversations and favors, and was worried about a possible conflict of interest because Runesson had promoted her streams.
The same report says the streamer allegedly raised the issue with an Embark community manager, but did not know an investigation was taking place.
Embark was founded in 2018 by former DICE developers, including ex-EA executive Patrick Söderlund and Runesson. The studio is best known for the free-to-play shooter The Finals, while Arc Raiders is its upcoming extraction shooter.
Embark has not publicly shared more detail beyond its statement, and it’s still unclear whether the studio plans any further comment.
