Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Book Details Azeroth Dungeons, Professions, and Factions
Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft launches November 17, bringing Azeroth to tabletop as a 256-page D&D crossover book. It won’t include a full campaign, but it’s being pitched as a setting toolbox for Dungeon Masters, with zones, cities, factions, monsters, professions, and several familiar WoW dungeons adapted for party play.
The included dungeons cover a wide level range: Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep for levels 1-4, Blackfathom Deeps for 5-10, Scarlet Monastery across 5-10 and 11-16, Dire Maul for 11-16, and Azjol-Nerub and Dragonflights for 17-20. Designers said some of the more linear MMO layouts, like Deadmines, have been expanded with side paths and alternate approaches so players aren’t just marching room to room fighting mobs.
Scarlet Monastery and Dire Maul are being treated more like mega-dungeons, with their separate wings pulled together into larger maps that can be explored in one run or over multiple expeditions. Azjol-Nerub is described as a boss gauntlet with safe rests between fights, while Dragonflights is smaller in room count but builds toward a major Onyxia encounter.
WoW-style professions are also part of the book. Gathering professions include Archaeology, Fishing, Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning, while production professions include Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Cooking, Enchanting, Engineering, Inscription, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. They’ll function as skills and projects characters can rank up over time, using D&D’s existing tool proficiency framework.
Factions get a renown-style system as well. The Alliance and Horde are central, naturally, but groups like the Argent Dawn, Earthen Ring, Kirin Tor, Steamwheedle Cartel, and Valdrakken Accord can also offer narrative ties and mechanical perks, including rare item access and faction resources.
The bestiary will include Azeroth creatures and major named characters, with Arthas listed at CR 25. Illidan Stormrage and Jaina Proudmoore are also getting stat blocks. Some bosses use “Mighty Actions,” special moves that unlock when certain battle conditions are met, meant to capture the feel of MMO boss phases without directly copying WoW’s combat math.
