Dune: Awakening Adds One Million Players Following Console Launch
Dune: Awakening has picked up one million new players since its recent console launch, Funcom says. The survival MMO is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox, alongside PC, and the console release arrived with the game’s biggest update so far across all platforms.
Funcom didn’t break down how many of those players came from each platform, so it’s not clear how much of the jump came from PlayStation 5 and Xbox specifically. Still, it’s a notable bump for the Arrakis survival game, which has players gathering resources, building bases, dealing with sandworms, and fighting for influence in the desert.
PC players who haven’t jumped in yet also have a cheaper entry point for a limited time. Dune: Awakening is 50% off on Steam through October 8.
The latest community update also covered a few ongoing rewards and feature notes. The El Sayldam: The Rain of Blood community challenge has completed all four main milestones, with a 120 million stretch goal tied to the Asteroid Harvester Pistol swatch. Unlocked rewards are set to start going out on October 6, and players need to log in by November 5 to receive them.
- The Battle for Control of Arrakis event raised $20,000 for charity: water through streamer and viewer participation.
- Players can log in by October 22 to claim six Matron’s Decor cosmetic housing items.
- Cross-play is in development, but Funcom hasn’t given a date yet.
- A Public Test Client patch lets single-player users launch without BattlEye installed. Multiplayer will still require it.
- PS5 physical disc owners can now buy the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition upgrade while playing from disc.
Funcom also said some limited-time cosmetic items will return through community events, giveaways, or a future in-game vendor, though preorder items such as the Terrarium of Muad’Dib won’t be offered again.
