Diablo V announced for spring 2029 with a fallen Sanctuary and first classes revealed

Blizzard revealed Diablo V during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, confirming that the next mainline Diablo game is in development and targeting spring 2029. The setup is blunt: Sanctuary has fallen, Diablo has won, and players will start the game in a world already under his control.

The first details came during the Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel. Players take the role of the Heir to Westmarch, fleeing through the remains of a kingdom turned into a foothold for Hell. Diablo rules from Westmarch, and Blizzard says he’ll be present from the start rather than waiting as a final-act threat.

Diablo V will also move away from the usual safe-town structure in one notable way. Instead of returning to fixed hubs, players will build up a traveling caravan of survivors, vendors, and companions. Blizzard mentioned a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a Treasure Goblin among the people who can join the group.

The first three classes are Demon Hunter, Monk, and the new Plague Knight. Demon Hunter returns with twin crossbows and mobility-focused combat, while Monk brings back martial arts and holy power. Plague Knight is built around disease, pestilence, and consuming that corruption for power. More classes are planned, but Blizzard isn’t naming them yet.

Itemization is taking cues from Diablo II, including larger inventory items that take up more space, stat requirements on gear, runes and runewords, and the return of gear-based sets. Blizzard also says crafting will draw from the Lord of Hatred approach, though Diablo V is still early enough that some of these systems could change before launch.

Blizzard said it plans to share regular Diablo V updates starting in 2027. The company also used BlizzCon to confirm a Netflix animated Diablo series, an Amazon class pack for Diablo IV in the first half of 2027, Season of Hell’s Legacy, and Diablo IV for Nintendo Switch 2. Diablo game director Brent Gibson also said the team has no further Diablo IV expansions planned past Lord of Hatred, while still intending to support Diablo IV for a long time.
