DC Universe Online starts a free character slot event, delays Patrol 2 to May 5

DC Universe Online has kicked off a new Ultimate Recruitment Event that gives every player one free character slot from April 28 through May 25, 2026. The idea is pretty simple: make a fresh hero or villain, play through that character’s Mentor storyline, and clear it before the event ends to pick up a set of rewards.

According to the official post, the event is limited to newly created characters, so level skips won’t count. Characters under level 30 also get a trinket that grants a 25% XP boost, plus an ally summon to help speed things along.

If you finish the event requirements, the reward pool includes a ring, an aura, currency, and buff items. Daybreak and Dimensional Ink are basically using this one to nudge players into rolling alts and replaying the early Mentor-specific story paths.

There’s also a small delay attached to the announcement. Patrol 2, which had been expected sooner, has been pushed back and is now set to go live on May 5. The team also said the Campaign 2026 in-game UI will keep showing Patrol 2 as an April item until after maintenance on April 28, so players may still see the old timing in-game for a bit.

For DCUO players, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: there’s a free slot available now, and if you’ve been meaning to start a new character from scratch, this is the window to do it.
