Blizzard Warns WoW Players to Keep Gold Payments Direct After RMT Account Actions

Blizzard is warning World of Warcraft players to be careful with gold payments after taking action against accounts tied to real-money gold buying. In a notice posted to the official WoW forums on October 27, 2026, the studio said some punished accounts had bought third-party gold and routed it through another player as payment for services like raid carries.

The short version: if you’re paying for a carry or another in-game service with gold, Blizzard says the gold should move directly from the buyer to the player or group providing the service. Using an intermediate player raises the risk that the gold came from real-money trading, and Blizzard may remove it or suspend accounts involved.

The warning also applies to guilds selling carries. If a guild accepts gold that comes through a middleman, Blizzard says that gold could be removed if it’s found to be linked to RMT.

The notice is aimed at a specific situation: players and groups who may not be buying gold themselves, but still end up handling illicit gold because of how the payment was routed. For anyone selling carries, the safest move is simple enough. Don’t take gold from someone who isn’t the customer.
