Blizzard Says Diablo IV Seasons Will Continue After Diablo V Launches
Blizzard says Diablo IV isn’t being pushed aside once Diablo V arrives. Game director Brent Gibson told Icy Veins at BlizzCon that the studio plans to keep supporting Diablo IV with seasons after Diablo V launches in spring 2029, as long as players are still showing up.
That should ease some of the concern around Diablo IV’s future, especially after Blizzard confirmed there won’t be more paid expansions beyond Lord of Hatred. Gibson compared the plan to Diablo II and Diablo III, both of which still have active players and continued seasonal support years after their original runs.
Gibson said some seasonal systems and items may carry forward, while others could be retired. He also left the door open for older ideas to return later in a different form, including as capstone-style content. So seasonal content won’t necessarily become a permanent stack of mechanics, but Blizzard isn’t treating every retired feature as gone forever either.
He also framed the move away from paid expansions as giving the team more room to tell stories through seasons. Diablo V is set roughly 100 years after Diablo IV, which leaves Blizzard a large gap to explore without tying everything to another boxed expansion.
For now, Blizzard is pointing to Season 15, Hell’s Legacy, and the upcoming Amazon class as signs that Diablo IV development is still active. Gibson also said the team is putting more attention on seasonal build variety and quality-of-life changes, which lines up with how Diablo IV has been evolving since launch.
