Blizzard rolls back WoW Classic TBC anti-boosting dungeon changes after loot bug

Blizzard has temporarily rolled back a pair of anti-boosting changes on World of Warcraft Classic‘s The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary servers after they caused loot problems. The original update was meant to cut down on players getting carried through dungeons without taking part in fights.

According to the official post, the changes would stop non-participating players from earning dungeon experience, and boss loot would scale based on how many players actually helped in the encounter. In practice, that mostly targets boosting runs where low-level characters zone in and get dragged through content.

That hotfix briefly went live this week, but Blizzard says it introduced bugs that didn’t show up in testing. The studio said some players were incorrectly blocked from rolling on loot, and drop behavior was affected for both solo players and groups. Because of that, the changes have been reverted for now while Blizzard investigates.

If you’re running dungeons normally, the intended rules shouldn’t change much once they return. The bigger impact is on paid or organized boosting, which has been a long-running part of Classic’s economy and leveling scene.

Blizzard hasn’t given a new date for when the anti-boosting rules will be re-enabled. For now, the old dungeon behavior is back until the loot issues are fixed.
