Overview

Pumpkin Days Overview

Pumpkin Days is a farming and dating sim RPG that prioritizes calm, everyday play over traditional “grind for levels” progression. Instead of centering the experience on constant fighting, it leans into routines like planting and harvesting, learning professions, collecting resources, and building relationships with the people around town. The overall vibe will feel familiar to fans of Harvest Moon style farming and marriage systems, while the broader set of activities and customization options echo the “make a life and a space” appeal found in Animal Crossing.

One of the game’s standout goals is inclusivity in character creation and social systems. You can create a non-binary character, and relationship options are not restricted by gender, letting you pursue story-driven interactions with NPCs based on your choices rather than a fixed pairing structure. Beyond romance, there is plenty to do for players who prefer crafting and collection: gather materials, create furniture and items, work on achievements, and improve various professions over time. Minigames that rely on skill and a bit of luck also provide alternate ways to earn rewards and break up the routine.

Housing and land are a major part of the long-term loop. Each player receives their own private home and farmland, which can be improved and filled with decorations and functional items obtained through play, crafted, or acquired through trading and NPC shops. The result is a game that works best when you enjoy setting your own objectives, whether that is perfecting a farm layout, completing profession goals, or focusing on community life.

Development History / Background:

Pumpkin Days is developed and published by Pumpkin Interactive, a small team aiming to create a more welcoming, low-pressure alternative to the usual MMORPG formula. The project first appeared on Kickstarter as Pumpkin Online, launching on August 14, 2014 and reaching its $30,000 goal on September 15, 2014, ultimately raising $37,129. Early development used HeroEngine, but the team transitioned to Unreal 4 Engine in October, 2015 as the design direction shifted away from a single massive shared world and toward smaller multiplayer and single-player server experiences. An open beta was at one point targeted for early 2017, though the scope was later reduced. The game eventually re-emerged with a tighter focus under the Pumpkin Days name, releasing on July 31, 2019.
