Darkfall: Rise of Agon
Darkfall: Rise of Agon is a subscription fantasy MMORPG built around a ruthless sandbox, real-time first and third-person combat, and constant player conflict. It leans heavily into full loot open PvP, so every roam, dungeon run, and trade route can turn into a fight, and large-scale clan warfare, sieges, and naval battles are central to the experience.

Darkfall: Rise of Agon Overview
Darkfall: Rise of Agon is a 3D, subscription-based fantasy MMORPG designed for players who prefer mechanical combat and a player-driven world over theme park quest rails. Combat plays in real time from first or third person and uses non-targeting, so success comes from aim, timing, movement, and knowing when to commit or disengage. The game’s structure is firmly sandbox, with clans, territory, and the ability for players to shape the world through construction and conquest.
A key pillar is open world PvP with full loot. Outside of protections aimed at brand-new characters, the world is intentionally dangerous, and death can mean losing everything you are carrying. That risk creates meaningful decisions around gearing, travel, and scouting, and it also fuels the economy because equipment and supplies constantly leave circulation. To discourage purely consequence-free killing, an alignment system provides a layer of accountability, encouraging players to think about when and where they pick fights instead of treating every encounter as a no-strings gank.
Character growth is built around skills rather than fixed classes. Instead of locking into a single archetype, you develop your character through what you do in the world, building a toolkit that matches your preferred playstyle. Combined with clan politics, city building, and siege warfare, Rise of Agon aims to deliver a harsh but social MMO where player conflicts and alliances create most of the memorable stories.

Development History / Background:
Darkfall: Rise of Agon is developed and published by Big Picture Games, a studio that obtained the Darkfall rights from the original developer, Adventurine. The first Darkfall launched in 2009 and later closed in 2012, after which the license was sold to two different independent teams, one of them being Big Picture Games. Rise of Agon is one of two follow-up projects tied to that legacy, alongside Darkfall: New Dawn. Work on RoA began in 2015, leading into a closed alpha that started on April 8, 2016. A closed beta followed on August 5, 2016, which included limited free access for players interested in testing the game before committing. At launch, the game is intended to use a monthly subscription model.
