Burstfire
Burstfire is a 3D tactical shooter built around competitive 5v5 matches where attackers and defenders trade roles across rounds. It positions itself as a deliberately methodical FPS, prioritizing planning, information, and coordinated pushes over constant run-and-gun chaos. In practice, that “slow-paced” label points to a round-based structure where every decision matters because a single mistake can remove you from the action until the next round.

Burstfire Overview
Burstfire is a realistic, round-based tactical shooter with a buy-to-play approach, and its overall structure will feel familiar to anyone who has spent time in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Matches revolve around two teams of five, with one side tasked with attacking an objective while the other holds positions and tries to deny progress. The pace is intentionally measured, with a strong emphasis on reading the map, managing angles, and executing as a unit rather than relying on individual reflexes alone.
One notable design choice is the lack of a class system. Instead of locking roles behind characters, Burstfire uses an open loadout philosophy where players can purchase and equip weapons more freely. That gives teams flexibility to adapt from round to round, and it also means coordination and economy decisions matter as much as raw aim. The game’s presentation and tension-heavy room clearing can also bring Rainbow 6 Siege to mind, especially with defenders having tools designed to slow, punish, or redirect attackers.
Core gameplay highlights:
- Round-based elimination – once you go down, you sit out until the next round begins.
- Loadout freedom – no rigid classes, gear choices are largely up to the player.
- Attack vs. defense structure – teams swap roles, and defenders can set traps to control space.
- Built-in voice communication – integrated VoIP to support callouts and coordinated plays.
- Customization – cosmetic options plus weapon skins and attachments such as scopes.

Burstfire Additional Information
Developer: Nacho Games
Publisher: Free Reign Entertainment
Release Date: September 24, 2015
Shut Down Date: December 21, 2015
Development History / Background:
Burstfire was created by the independent US studio Nacho Games out of Los Angeles, California. The team reportedly included developers with prior experience at Adhesive Games, the studio known for the mech shooter Hawken before K2 Networks acquired it and assumed control of development. Even as free-to-play shooters continued to dominate the market, Burstfire aimed to enter the space with a buy-to-play model, placing it in the same general competitive lane as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The project was formally revealed on June 9, 2015. It released on September 24, 2015, and the final developer communication was dated December 21, 2015. After that point the game appears to have been left without ongoing support, and it is considered abandoned.
