Overview

Aion: Legions of War Overview

Aion: Legions of War is a 3D mobile RPG built around turn-based fights, collectible heroes, and a steady stream of upgrade systems. It is designed to be approachable on a phone, with battles that frequently resolve automatically while you step in to trigger hero abilities at key moments. Between missions you manage your roster, improve skills, and chase better gear, which is where most of the long-term progression lives.

The game frames its journey around the protagonist, Ren, and a story that sits within the broader Aion universe. As you advance, you recruit from a large pool of class-flavored characters, including frontline bruisers, spellcasters, and support units that can keep a squad alive. Many heroes come in elemental variations and can be strengthened through upgrades and skill development, giving you reasons to revisit team composition for different encounters.

Outside of combat, your home base is the Fortress, a hub that functions like a management layer. Buildings such as the Advancement Sanctum, the Shugo Shop, and the Tower of Transcendence provide services and progression paths that feed back into fighting power, making the loop a blend of quick battles and longer-term account building. Equipment hunting and hero growth are central, with higher-end weapons and armor acting as major power spikes, and certain heroes offering transformation-style advancement into stronger forms with additional capabilities.

Development History / Background:

Aion: Legions of War was developed and published by NCsoft, the South Korean studio best known for PC MMORPGs such as Aion, WildStar, Guild Wars 2, and Blade & Soul. Although the company’s reputation was built primarily on online PC titles, it also pushed further into mobile with region-focused releases, including Lineage M and Lineage Red Knights. As part of that mobile direction, this project served as a companion-style entry for the Aion franchise, first appearing as a limited Android soft launch on July 28, 2017.

The game later expanded to a broader audience with an English global release on January 24, 2018 across iOS and Android, before ultimately being discontinued. Aion: Legions of War shut down on June 30, 2020.
