Xbox’s next console “Project Helix” is confirmed to run Xbox and PC games
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console, currently codenamed Project Helix, will play both Xbox and PC games. She shared the detail in a social media post, framing it as part of a broader push to “return to Xbox” with a renewed focus on console hardware.
Sharma didn’t get into specifics like how PC games would be supported, what storefronts might be involved, or whether this means native Windows-style installs or something more curated. The main takeaway, for now, is that Xbox is publicly leaning into a future where its console library and PC gaming overlap more directly.
She also suggested Xbox exclusives aren’t completely off the table, though she stopped short of promising anything. Sharma said she’s still getting up to speed on the reasoning behind recent strategy decisions and wants to understand what the data says about where Xbox goes next.
This follows earlier signals from Microsoft leadership that next-gen hardware is in the works. Last year, then-Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed the company was prototyping and designing the next console, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously hinted that PC games could be part of the plan.
Microsoft also signed a multi-year agreement with AMD last June to supply tech for the next generation of Xbox hardware. Leadership-wise, Bond stepped down last month, and longtime Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has retired, leaving Sharma as the public face of Xbox’s next hardware push.
