PlayStation Store may be testing different prices for different users
Sony appears to be quietly testing A/B pricing on the PlayStation Store, with some players seeing different discounts than others for the same games.
That’s according to a new report from PSprices, a site that tracks PlayStation Store pricing across more than 50 regions. PSprices says it spotted “experiment identifiers” like IPT_PILOT and IPT_OPR_TESTING in PlayStation API responses, and claims those experimental prices only show up for certain user segments selected by Sony.
Sony hasn’t publicly talked about any pricing experiment. PSprices believes the test has been running since November 2025 and may be affecting prices for more than 150 games across 68 territories, including parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The report suggests Japan and the US aren’t included, possibly due to tighter regulation or higher sensitivity around pricing changes.
One wrinkle: PSprices says the test may now include more personalized discounts during sales. In the examples it cites, some users were offered discounts ranging from about 5.3% to 17.6%, depending on the game and the player’s purchase history. The games listed reportedly include a mix of first-party releases and titles from publishers like 2K, Focus, Deep Silver, and Bethesda.
For now, it’s hard to know how widespread this is without Sony confirming it. But if you’ve noticed a friend getting a better (or worse) deal on the same PlayStation Store sale, this could be why.
