WoW Patch 12.1 Adds Instanced World Boss Lairs and New Endeavors on August 11

World of Warcraft’s next Midnight update, patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek, is scheduled for August 11, bringing Season 2 content along with a few bigger changes to the usual patch lineup. The headline additions include Lairs, a new take on world bosses, plus more Endeavors for players who’ve been working through that side activity.

Lairs are the most notable shift. Instead of finding a world boss out in the open world, players will enter an instance built around that encounter. Blizzard is also adding difficulty levels, which should give these fights more staying power than the usual weekly world boss stop.

In Blizzard’s official post, the studio says the world-level version starts with an opening scenario while the group fills, rather than having players sit in a queue and wait. For premade groups tackling higher difficulties, the group leader will need to set the difficulty and enter first. Functionally, that puts Lairs somewhere close to a one-boss raid, though Blizzard is framing them as their own activity.

Patch 12.1 also adds new Endeavors, including “Every Bakar Has His Day,” which sends players back to Ohn’ahran Plains, and Amani-themed tasks tied to the update’s new content. Endeavors have often pushed players into older zones, so the new batch may matter most to players who want a different set of weekly goals and housing rewards to chase.

Curse of Ula’tek is also expected to bring a new dungeon, a new raid, and more housing updates. If you’re still wrapping up Season 1 goals in Midnight, the August 11 date is the one to watch.
