WoW Class Tuning Hits October 6 With Unholy Nerf and Several PvE Buffs

Blizzard is rolling out another round of World of Warcraft class tuning with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6, led by a notable Unholy Death Knight nerf and PvE buffs for Devourer Demon Hunters, Monks, Subtlety Rogues, and Enhancement Shamans.

The biggest cut is aimed at Unholy’s Blightfall, which will now deal 100% of remaining plague damage instead of 200%. Blizzard says a recent bug fix pushed the ability higher than intended, and the update also fixes an issue where Augmentation Evoker reattribution damage from plague eruptions could be credited to the Death Knight.

  • Devourer Demon Hunters are getting several single-target buffs, including 8% increases to Consume/Devour, Reap/Cull, Eradicate, and Collapsing Star primary target damage. The Hunt’s initial hit and Voidblade are going up by 10%. These changes don’t affect PvP.
  • Brewmaster Monks are getting more baseline durability in dungeons. Quick Sip will purify 8% of current Stagger, up from 5%, and Pretense of Instability’s dodge bonus will last 8 seconds after drinking a Brew.
  • Mistweaver Monks are getting raid-focused healing buffs, with Invigorating Mists and Enveloping Mist both increased by 15%. Enveloping Mist’s buff won’t apply in PvP.
  • Subtlety Rogue’s Trickster hero talents are being buffed to better compete with Deathstalker. Fazed rises to 7% increased damage taken, while Unseen Blade and Coup de Grace get 15% and 10% damage buffs respectively outside PvP.
  • Enhancement Shaman gets a broad throughput bump, with all ability and auto-attack damage up 4%, plus a much larger 35% buff to Lava Lash. These are also PvE-only changes.

The same maintenance also brings a wide PvP tuning pass, mostly aimed at underused PvP talents. Tank PvP talents that apply Focused Assault are being strengthened, with more stacks, longer duration, shorter cooldown, and increased range.

There are plenty of spec-specific PvP buffs too, including changes for Blood and Frost Death Knights, Havoc and Vengeance Demon Hunters, Restoration Druids, Augmentation Evokers, Fire and Frost Mages, Mistweaver and Windwalker Monks, Restoration Shamans, Warlocks, Warriors, and others. Most of the pass is upward tuning rather than nerfs, so the arena and battleground meta may shift a bit once the weekly reset lands.
