Wizards of the Coast cancels Giant Skull’s Dungeons & Dragons game

Wizards of the Coast has ended its publishing deal with Giant Skull, and the Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game the studio was making is no longer moving forward. The news was first reported by Bloomberg.

Hasbro said it “decided not to pursue an early concept” from Giant Skull, while adding that it still respects Stig Asmussen and his team and may consider future pitches from the studio. Asmussen also said Giant Skull is talking with Hasbro and other companies about new publishing agreements, and that things are “good” at the studio.

The partnership between Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull was announced last June. At the time, the project was described as a single-player action-adventure game set in the D&D universe. Giant Skull itself is a newer studio, founded in 2024, with developers from Respawn on staff. Asmussen previously directed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

According to the report, the cancellation happened alongside a broader reorganization at Wizards of the Coast. That includes the closure of internal studio Atomic Arcade, which had been tied to another G.I. Joe project.

Wizards of the Coast still has other game partnerships in the works, including Archetype Entertainment’s Exodus and Invoke’s Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. But for this particular D&D project, it looks like it’s over before players ever got a proper reveal.
