Warped Universe hits Steam Early Access on May 6, 2026 as a free-to-play PvE shooter

Warped Universe is coming to Steam in Early Access on May 6, 2026, and it’ll be free to play. According to the game’s Steam page, the launch version will support solo play, with co-op planned in an early post-launch update.

The game is a PvE looter shooter built around community-wide progression. Each mission feeds into seasonal objectives shared across the playerbase, and collected Residuum is used to power planetary facilities. When those facilities are finished, the whole game gets permanent buffs, and more planets unlock as the season moves forward.

One of the more unusual parts of the setup is how missions can be played either in real-time action or as turn-based tactics, depending on what you pick before heading in. Warped Universe also includes both ground and space combat, rather than sticking to one format.

The studio says monetization is cosmetic-only through an in-game currency called Koju, with no pay-to-win elements. It’s also being developed in Unreal Engine 5.

For now, the main thing confirmed is the Steam Early Access date and the free-to-play launch. Co-op is part of the plan, but it won’t be available on day one.
