Unity opens its new AI toolset to Unity 6 developers in beta

Unity has rolled out a new set of AI tools in open beta for developers using Unity 6 or newer. The package centers on an in-editor assistant that can look at a project, help explain what’s going on, and point developers toward the right Unity tools while they work.

The beta also includes a planning mode for breaking down implementation steps, guided workflows called Skills for tasks like UI and scene setup, and generation tools for placeholder assets such as materials, sounds, cubemaps, and 2D or 3D assets. Unity says developers can also roll back changes instantly.

There’s also an AI gateway that lets teams connect their preferred AI tools inside the Unity editor. For developers working outside the editor, Unity is offering access through its Model Context Protocol server, which is meant to support external coding tools and large language models.

Access depends on which Unity tier you’re on. Unity Pro, Enterprise, and Industry subscribers get the features and credits automatically after installing the Assistant package. Unity Personal users can start with a 14-day free trial that includes 1,000 credits. After that, it’s $10 a month for another 1,000 credits, with extra credit bundles sold separately.

The release is part of a broader AI push at Unity. Earlier this year, the company launched its AI-based ad network Vector, which Unity said performed strongly in its latest financial results. Vector made up 56% of Grow Solutions revenue. Unity has also moved away from older ad business pieces, including shutting down IronSource and divesting Supersonic.
