Throne and Liberty’s Frozen Divide Expansion Adds Gauntlets on June 25
Throne and Liberty is getting a new weapon with The Frozen Divide, the MMO’s next expansion, which is due out June 25. NCSoft has shared a closer look at Gauntlets, a melee-focused weapon built around close-range pressure, chained attacks, and a much more physical fighting style than the game’s current lineup.
In a behind-the-scenes post, the team says Gauntlets were chosen because Throne and Liberty didn’t really have a weapon centered on direct hand-to-hand combat. Existing options like bows, staffs, and swords often lean on spacing, positioning, or specific attack rhythms. Gauntlets are meant for players who’d rather get in close and stay there.
The weapon is described as a fit for frontline melee players, especially those who want to keep a steady combat flow going instead of dipping in and out. One skill, Eclipse of Blood, boosts attack power and combat speed when activated, turning the user into a faster, harder-hitting brawler for a limited window.
NCSoft also says Gauntlets are designed around two distinct playstyles within the same weapon. The studio frames them as easy to start using, but harder to master once players begin working through those different paths and pairing them with Throne and Liberty’s existing dual-weapon system.
The Frozen Divide has already been shown with new bosses and open PvP elements, and Gauntlets now look like one of the expansion’s bigger combat additions. The expansion launches later this month, on June 25.
