Three Star Trek Online ships just showed up in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Three ships that originally debuted in Star Trek Online have now crossed over into on-screen Star Trek canon, appearing in Paramount+’s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. They show up in last week’s episode, “Vox in Excelso.”

The ships in question are the Ketha Recon Raptor, the M’Chla Bird of Prey Refit, and the QeHpu’ Advanced Light Battlecruiser. Cryptic’s MMO has been running for years and has built up a big catalog of original ship designs alongside classic Trek staples, so it’s always a fun spot when one of those game-first designs pops up on TV.

Cryptic called out the appearance in an official post, noting the unusual jump from licensed game to television series.

This isn’t the first time Star Trek Online creations have made the leap. Star Trek: Picard previously featured several STO-origin ships, including the Gagarin, Ross, Edison, and Reliant, with other designs also appearing in the background in later moments.

For STO players, it’s basically an easy Easter egg. For everyone else, they’re just more ships in the fleet, now with a little extra history behind them.
