The First Descendant’s May 21 update reworks farming and adds a new difficulty system
Nexon has outlined what’s coming in The First Descendant’s next update, which goes live May 21. The big change is a rework to the game’s farming loop, with the studio saying it wants progression to feel more intuitive and less messy for players chasing materials and gear.
The patch also adds a new difficulty setup tied to field content and other progression systems, based on the latest developer livestream. It’s part of a broader pass on how players move through the game’s grind, which has been one of the more common sticking points since launch.
According to the developer livestream, Nexon is restructuring parts of the reward flow so players can more clearly understand where to go and what to farm. That includes changes meant to cut down on friction when targeting specific items.
The update is also set to include additional balance adjustments and system tweaks, though the preview focused mostly on the progression side rather than small patch-note stuff. If you’ve been away from The First Descendant for a bit, this looks like one of the more practical updates the game has had lately. Less about flashy additions, more about making the core loop easier to follow.
The First Descendant is Nexon’s free-to-play co-op looter shooter, available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Full patch notes should be available once the update goes live on May 21.
