SWTOR outlines spring plans, teases Legacy Reborn update and May events

Broadsword has shared a new look at what’s next for Star Wars: The Old Republic, with the biggest near-term beats centered on spring events, Game Update 7.9, and the ongoing move to DirectX 12. According to the official post, the Dantooine Spring Abundance Festival is live now and includes a new mini-pet.

The studio is also pointing players toward Game Update 7.9, called Legacy Reborn, which is still planned for this spring. Broadsword says the update will involve Darth Jadus, Darth Malgus, and Shae Vizla, though it hasn’t shared much beyond that yet. If you were hoping for a real 8.0 reveal, this letter doesn’t do that. The team says the next major update on 8.0 will come during the 7.9 livestream, where it plans to show the first feature details.

Outside the story update, SWTOR’s May the Fourth plans will include multiple sales and XP events in May. Exact timing and details weren’t included here, but that’s the current setup for the game’s Star Wars Day push.

Broadsword also gave a status check on SWTOR’s DirectX 12 migration. The team says all major features are working except the UI, and it plans to bring players in once the build is ready for alpha. That work goes along with the game’s broader technical updates, including the shift to 64-bit, which has been a long-running focus for the MMO.

So for now, the short version is pretty simple: a live seasonal event, 7.9 still on deck for spring, more 8.0 news later, and backend tech work still moving forward.
