Star Citizen’s Constellation Mk V Centaurus Is Bigger, Heavier, and Built for More Cargo
Cloud Imperium has shared new details on the RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus and its dedicated Skylark snub, outlining a ship that sounds less like a straight replacement for the Mk IV and more like a heavier, more capable branch of the same family.
The Mk V Centaurus is larger than the current Constellation Mk IV, with extra cargo space and enough room for larger ground vehicles. It also adds internal missile restocking, internal component access, and improved habitation, which should make it feel more practical for longer trips rather than just a bigger combat frame.
That extra mass comes with tradeoffs. The Centaurus is tuned to turn and accelerate more slowly, though it gains durability, a second size 3 shield, and a higher NAV speed. The pilot still has four size 5 weapons, while the turrets have been changed to remote quad size 3 mounts controlled from the bridge.
Missiles are a bigger part of the package too. The ship carries 32 size 2 missiles, with in-flight reload racks so crews can restock internally instead of relying only on external rearming. Its armor is reinforced, but CIG says it still sits below dedicated heavy hitters like the Hammerhead and Perseus.
The bridge has also been redesigned, dropping the original Constellation struts for a cleaner forward view. That’s a small detail on paper, but longtime Constellation pilots will probably notice it immediately.
The Skylark snub is specific to the Mk V docking setup and won’t be compatible across the older Constellation line. It uses a prone pilot position, three size 2 weapons, bespoke missile racks, and two shield generators, making it tougher than a typical snub but also heavier and less agile. The Mk V also won’t be able to repair, refuel, and restock the Skylark internally.
CIG says the Skylark is planned as a standalone release at IAE, and more Mk V variants are planned. No extra timing was given for those future versions.
