Sony confirms PlayStation Plus price increase for new subscribers starting May 20
Sony has confirmed a PlayStation Plus price increase for new subscribers in select regions, starting May 20. The company said the change is happening because of “ongoing market conditions,” though it hasn’t clearly listed every region affected yet.
Based on Sony’s announcement, the confirmed changes so far appear to cover the Essential tier. A one-month Essential subscription will cost $10.99 USD, up from $9.99. The three-month option goes to $27.99 USD, up from $24.99. Sony also listed equivalent pricing of €9.99 and £7.99 for one month, and €27.99 and £21.99 for three months.
Current subscribers generally won’t be affected unless their membership lapses or they change their existing plan. Sony said there are exceptions in Turkey and India.
What’s still unclear is whether Extra and Premium are also getting a price bump. The social post only mentioned Essential pricing, so for now that’s the only tier Sony has actually confirmed.
This follows other recent price increases from Sony, including PS5 hardware in some markets. For players trying to budget around subscriptions, the main thing to know right now is simple: if you’re a new PS Plus customer in one of the affected regions, Essential gets more expensive on May 20.
