RuneScape’s Player Avatar Refresh Is Now Live
RuneScape’s long-awaited Player Avatar refresh is live, giving player characters a full visual pass as part of Jagex’s ongoing Road to Restoration work. The update modernizes the base avatar model, including the face, torso, hands, arms, legs, and feet, while also adjusting most outfits and armor to fit the new look.
According to the official post, players should still have access to their previous style if they want to keep it, though several base outfit choices have been updated. Hair and beard options have also been reworked, with 46 male and female hairstyles and 22 beards built for the new base heads.
Some older options are sticking around as “Legacy” styles. That includes 57 hairstyles and four beard options that fit the new head model but won’t be updated further. Jagex says this was a change from its earlier plan to remove them, following feedback from beta testing, blogs, polls, and livestreams.
This refresh has been a long time coming. Jagex first discussed the avatar overhaul years ago, then shelved it for a while before bringing it back under the Road to Restoration banner. The goal, as the studio frames it, is to make characters look cleaner and more expressive without losing the RuneScape feel.
As expected for a visual update touching this much old gear and character art, there are known issues. Jagex is asking players to report problems like clipping armor, poor item fit, or NPCs with missing head parts while the team continues cleaning things up.
