RuneScape’s 2027 Roadmap Sets Up Three Story Arcs and an October Plugins Beta

Jagex used its RuneFest 2026 Summit to lay out RuneScape’s 2027 plans, and the big change is a new arc structure. Instead of isolated updates, the team is planning three roughly four-month story arcs across the year, starting in January with Hoard of Dragons.

There’s also something much sooner: the RS Plugins Beta starts October 6. The first test will include five community-made plugins, including Quest Helper, Menu Entry Swapper, Tilemarkers, Entity Hider, and Job Gauges. Jagex says more details on accessing the beta worlds are coming alongside a dedicated blog.

  • December 2 brings the first “Remastered Journey” update, focused on the early player experience, including Tutorial Island through areas like Seers’ Village, Camelot, and Elvarg’s lair.
  • The Adventure Guide also launches December 2 as an optional in-game pathfinder for new and returning players.
  • Hoard of Dragons starts in January 2027 with Dragon Slayer II, Dragon Isle, a Clue Scroll expansion, Grandmaster Clues, and an Agility rework.
  • The City of Gnomes arrives in summer 2027 with The Curse of Arposandra, a Glouphrie solo boss, the Argento’s Nightmare community skilling boss, and remasters for existing gnome quests.
  • Secrets of Karamja follows later in 2027, headlined by a new raid set in the Temple of Ah Za Rhoon.
  • Jagex also plans restoration work during the year, including a unified collection log, grouping system changes, clan finder improvements, a quest timeline rework, balance passes, and smaller cleanup updates.

The early-game remaster sounds broader than a visual pass. Jagex says it’s looking at older quests, early bosses, skill pacing, UI clutter, settings defaults, and how new players are introduced to RuneScape’s menus and systems. Quests like Demon Slayer, Vampyre Slayer, and Dragon Slayer were named as examples of content being reviewed.

The first 2027 arc is the most detailed so far. Dragon Slayer II will revisit Oziach, Elvarg’s legacy, and a new Dragon Isle area. The Clue Scroll update adds Grandmaster Clues, while the Agility rework is aimed at making movement abilities like Surge, Dive, and Escape fit more naturally into the skill.

For plugins, the beta is starting small on purpose. Jagex says players will access the Plugin Hub from the in-game ribbon menu, where they can install, manage, enable, and report issues with plugins. The setup is clearly taking cues from Old School RuneScape’s plugin scene, but this is the first step for RuneScape itself.
