RuneScape previews outfit and gear clean-up as part of “Regrounding Items”

Jagex is lining up a visual and itemization pass for modern RuneScape focused on what it’s calling “Regrounding Items.” The idea is to bring outfits and equipment more in line with the game’s world, which in practice means reworking some of the flashier, weirder-looking sets and simplifying parts of the skilling outfit system.

A big target is Elite Skilling outfits, including sets the team says don’t really fit the skill fantasy. The blog specifically calls out the “Fury Shark” full-body shark suit tied to high-level Fishing achievements. Jagex also points to the current “mix and match” approach where players combine pieces from different elite outfits to make “master” outfits for certain skills.

Jagex says it wants to overhaul how these outfits are crafted and organized, including rebalancing requirements. As part of that, some “uncombined” versions are planned to be removed, with refunds for affected players. There’s a preliminary list of outfits the team is looking at in the official blog post.

Beyond skilling outfits, Jagex is also looking at individual items and cosmetics it considers “non-diegetic,” overloaded with particle effects, or otherwise out of place. Most of those are expected to get remade versions, but the studio says a small number will be removed entirely because they have too many issues to reasonably fix.

This is part of RuneScape’s wider “Road to Restoration” push, where Jagex has been outlining longer-term changes to older systems. No release date was included here, so for now it’s a preview of what’s being targeted and how refunds and removals might work once the plan locks in.
