Pearl Abyss Q2 drops after Crimson Desert’s launch spike, Switch 2 version planned for 2027
Pearl Abyss posted a weaker second quarter after Crimson Desert’s big launch boost cooled off. The company reported operating revenue of ₩192.6 billion, about $135.9 million, down 41.4% from the previous quarter. Operating profit fell 68.1% to ₩67.6 billion, about $47.7 million, while net profit dropped 58.3% to ₩70.9 billion, about $50 million.
The dip follows a much stronger first quarter, when Crimson Desert helped drive a 419.8% earnings jump. Pearl Abyss said Q2 came in below its earlier guidance because of factors including different regional pricing, distribution channel splits, physical package revenue timing, and deferred revenue tied to refund guarantees.
Crimson Desert still did most of the heavy lifting. The open-world RPG sold 2.11 million copies during the quarter and brought in ₩136.1 billion, about $96 million. Digital sales made up 82% of units, with physical copies at 18%. Pearl Abyss said the game accounted for around 70% of total revenue.
By region, North America and Europe made up 75% of revenue, followed by Asia at 16% and Korea at 9%. PC was the biggest platform at 61%, with consoles at 34% and mobile at 5%.
Pearl Abyss is also working on Crimson Desert DLC, with a release date set to be announced in the third quarter. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is in the works too. The company said it has reached a “playable baseline” on the system and is targeting launch in the first half of 2027.
Black Desert brought in ₩55 billion, about $38.8 million, slightly down as the company focused on content optimization instead of major expansions. Pearl Abyss also still has DokeV and Plan 8 in development, with DokeV currently scheduled for the second half of 2028.
