Overwatch 2 adds Sierra and brings back post-match accolades in Season 2: Summit
Overwatch 2’s Season 2: Summit is live now, and the headline additions are a new hero, a returning social feature, and a handful of gameplay updates. According to the official post, the update adds Sierra to the roster, launches the Grand Mesa event with its own reward track, brings back post-match accolades, reworks Antarctic Peninsula, and makes what Blizzard calls a small refresh to perks.
Sierra is the new playable character this season. Blizzard describes her as a rifle-focused hero who also uses a combat drone named Dorothy. Beyond that, the announcement doesn’t get too deep into her kit in the material here, but she’s clearly the centerpiece of the update.
The rest of the patch is a mix of quality-of-life and map changes. Post-match accolades are back after being absent from Overwatch 2 for a while, and Antarctic Peninsula has been reworked. There’s also the limited-time Grand Mesa event, which includes a separate reward track for players to work through.
Blizzard also used this week’s Director’s Take to talk about some broader issues the team wants to address, including aging hero kits and the state of the game’s social spaces. In the developer blog, the studio said it’s looking at both short-term and long-term improvements, with voice interaction and stronger social features part of that conversation.
For players jumping in now, the immediate takeaway is pretty simple: there’s a new hero to learn, an event to grind through, and a few familiar parts of Overwatch’s older social layer are starting to come back.
