Fallout 76 PTR adds Infestations endgame events ahead of Protect Appalachia update

Fallout 76 players on the public test server can now try out Infestations, a new endgame activity coming with the Protect Appalachia update. According to the official post, these encounters are meant for experienced players and are built around tougher, higher-risk fights out in the world.

Infestations won’t be handed to players through map markers right away. You’ll need to find them while exploring Appalachia, and they only show up on your Paper Map and Pip-Boy after you’ve discovered one. Bethesda says the activity will also offer unique 4-Star Legendary rewards.

The same update includes a few other additions. A Deathclaw pet is on the way for CAMPs, seasonal fish are being added starting with summer varieties, and Bethesda is making changes to armor and radiation resistance.

Fallout 76 has leaned more into repeatable world activities and long-term progression over the years, so Infestations look like another push in that direction. There’s no release date mentioned here for Protect Appalachia beyond its current PTR testing, but players who have access to the test realm can check the feature out now.
