Old School RuneScape Grand Exchange Now Allows Trades Over Max Cash
Old School RuneScape’s Grand Exchange can now handle trades above the old 2.147 billion GP limit. The “Beyond Max Cash” update is live, letting players buy and sell ultra-expensive items through the GE using a mix of Coins and Platinum tokens.
That’s a big change for high-end trading. Until now, items worth more than max cash often had to be traded directly between players, usually with help from third-party price checks or external listings. Now those trades can happen through the normal Grand Exchange flow.
The item stack limit hasn’t changed. Coins and other stacks are still capped at 2,147,483,647. Instead, the GE now draws from both Coins and Platinum tokens when needed. Jagex says this effectively puts the trading ceiling at around 2.149 trillion GP when combining max Coins and max Platinum token holdings.
Payments are handled automatically when an offer completes. Depending on what’s in your inventory or bank, the system may shuffle Coins and Platinum tokens around to cover the offer, and it can return change when Platinum is used. If players want tighter control over what gets spent, Jagex recommends withdrawing the exact Coins needed before making the offer.
- Grand Exchange offers can now be entered above 2.147 billion GP.
- Coins and Platinum tokens can both be used to complete trades.
- GE tax still applies, with the existing 5 million coin tax cap per item.
- Buy limits and other existing trade restrictions are unchanged.
- Many value displays now support numbers over max cash, though loot tracker and ground items are exceptions.
- Guide prices now update every 3 hours instead of every 24 hours, with a maximum change of 20% instead of 5%.
The update also makes guide prices more reactive, especially for lower-volume items that previously struggled to meet trade volume thresholds. That should make rare item pricing a bit less stale, though it remains to be seen how quickly the market settles around the new system.
Jagex noted that this week’s update is lighter elsewhere because the team is preparing for RuneFest 2026, which takes place October 3 and 4 at the Birmingham NEC.
