Marathon Season 2 Adds Night Marsh, Sentinel Runner, and a Free to Play Open Play Week

Marathon Season 2 is live now, bringing a new night version of Dire Marsh, the defensive Sentinel Runner shell, new weapons, and a fresh progression system called The Cradle. Bungie also showed a Season 2 gameplay trailer during State of Play. The game hit a 24 hour peak today of a little over 30,000 on Steam.

The update is arriving alongside Marathon’s first Open Play Week, running June 2 to June 9 on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S. During that window, players can try the full game, and any progress made will carry over if they buy Marathon for Season 2.

  • Dire Marsh gets a darker Night variant, with new enemies, environmental hazards, and survival-horror-leaning mechanics.
  • New gear is built around low-visibility runs, including flashlights, Darksight night vision scopes, and signal flares.
  • The Sentinel Runner shell focuses on defense, with tools like an automated laser platform, proximity mine, and short-range motion tracker.
  • The Cradle lets players improve Runner shell stats outside of faction progression, with upgrades shared across shells and reconfigurable at any time.
  • A new section has been added to the upper rooms of Complex, with more loot and encounters.

Season 2 also adds Sponsored Survival, an experimental mode available from June 2 to June 9. One crew enters Dire Marsh Night first with Sponsored Kits to loot and survive against UESC forces and new enemies, then backfilled Rooks arrive to fight over the single final exfil.
