Legends of Aria Eternal Comes to Steam September 10 With Player-Run Servers

Legends of Aria Eternal is heading to Steam on Thursday, September 10, opening the sandbox MMORPG back up beyond its recent playtest for original backers and buyers.

The big change in this reboot is player-run servers. At launch, players will be able to host their own servers, adjust rulesets and data files, and invite who they want. A Unity toolkit for custom map creation is planned for later, but won’t be part of the initial Steam release.

The official server will also continue, though it’s moving into a beta state. The team plans to run regular events and make ruleset adjustments over time.

Legends of Aria Eternal is also rolling back or reworking some of the systems from earlier versions. Top-end gear will once again come from crafters rather than endgame loot drops, and professions are being removed in favor of the older swappable skill system, with skills found through books looted in the world. Other changes include mounted combat, faster skill gain, revised enchanting, and rotating chaos zones.

On monetization, there won’t be a subscription or premium access gates. Lead developer Derek “Supreem” Brinkmann said on Discord that the Steam version will have a box price, though the amount hasn’t been announced yet. Players who were already paying for a citizen’s pass subscription will be able to claim a Steam key for free.

Brinkmann also said custom server operators can monetize their servers however they want, including cosmetic shops, provided they build the code needed to support it.
