Hytale Update 6 Adds an In-Game Mod Browser, Hardcore Rules, and Easier Friend Connections

Hypixel Studios has released Hytale Update 6, a sizable patch that adds an in-game mod browser, Hardcore Mode, Spectator Mode, expanded Creative tools, controller gyro support, and networking changes meant to make hosting for friends less painful.

According to the official patch notes, the mod browser is now available from the main menu. Players can browse featured, popular, and recently updated mods, search by name or description, check screenshots and supported versions, then install directly from the game. There’s also a library page for updating or removing installed mods. Paid mods aren’t part of the browser, though Hypixel says future versions may let players support mod creators through official cosmetics while keeping mods free.

  • Hardcore Mode is enabled when creating a world through Customize, with five settings: Off, Permadeath, Three Strikes, Nine Lives, and Soulbound.
  • Death in Hardcore drops everything and moves the player into Spectator Mode, where they can fly or follow living players while remaining invisible and intangible.
  • Creative mode gets the Color Tool, palette presets, a Palette Editor, and larger builder selections up to 16 million blocks.
  • Players can now stand on and be pushed by entities with hard collision, including rotated collision boxes made through the Entity Tool.
  • DualSense and Switch Pro controllers now support gyro aiming.
  • Networking now uses STUN and TURN to help players connect without relying on Tailscale or VPNs, though double NAT still isn’t supported.

The networking change comes with a technical catch: Hytale has moved from the hytale/2 protocol to hytale/3, so servers and plugins need to be rebuilt. The patch also now requires OpenGL 4.1 or later.

Update 6 spent 13 weeks in pre-release testing, and Hypixel says community contributions were accepted for the first time during this cycle. MelodicAlbuild, one of those contributors, has also joined the team.
