Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14 Adds Dark Gifts and Activate Keyword

Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 14, Dark Gifts of Dalaran, is live now, bringing a new Dark Gifts system, the Activate keyword, fresh heroes and minions, and a refreshed Battlegrounds Track.

The main addition is Dark Gifts, a new way to spend Gold during a match. Starting on Turn 3, players can use the Dark Gift button to spend 3 Gold and Discover a minion paired with a unique Dark Gift. Blizzard says this is a Battlegrounds-specific spin on a mechanic Hearthstone players may already recognize.

  • Dark Gifts let you Discover minions with extra magical effects starting on Turn 3.
  • Activate is a new keyword that gives some minions an ability you can trigger during the Recruit Phase by spending Gold.
  • Activate abilities can be used once per turn while the minion is in your warband.
  • The Trinket pool has been expanded for the new season.
  • Season 14 also introduces Lockbox and Fishbait mechanics, along with new heroes, minions, and synergies.

The season change also resets Battlegrounds ratings and refreshes the Battlegrounds Track. Any Season 13 track rewards that players earned but didn’t claim will be claimed automatically, according to Blizzard’s official post.

Season 14 follows the usual Battlegrounds structure: new systems to test, a rating reset, and another batch of pieces that will likely shake up early builds while players figure out which Dark Gifts and Activate minions are worth the Gold.
