Guild Wars 3 Announced for PC, Set Earlier in Tyria’s History, Beta Begins Fall 2027
ArenaNet has announced Guild Wars 3, the next numbered entry in the long-running MMORPG series, during Summer Game Fest 2026. It’s the first mainline sequel since Guild Wars 2 launched in 2012, and for now, the only confirmed platform is PC. The beta begins Fall 2027.
The new game is set in Tyria, but much earlier than the events of the previous games. According to the announcement details, Guild Wars 3 is being framed as a prequel focused on the Guild Wars era, when human kingdoms and rival guild factions were in open conflict. In other words, players will be stepping into a period the series has mostly treated as backstory until now.
The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5. Its Steam listing points to open-world exploration, action-focused combat, player choices that can affect the world, guild-based co-op content, large-scale PvP wars, and public world events as major pieces of the design.
ArenaNet also released a first cinematic trailer alongside the reveal, though it didn’t come with a release date, the beta begins Fall 2027. The studio says more information will be shared later.
The announcement follows last year’s Guild Wars Reforged, which updated the original 2005 game for modern systems. Guild Wars 2, meanwhile, has continued running for more than a decade with expansions and live updates, so Guild Wars 3 marks the clearest sign yet that ArenaNet is preparing the series for its next big step.
