Guild Wars 2’s Next WvW War Score Beta Starts August 11 With More Scoring Changes
ArenaNet is getting ready for the third Guild Wars 2 World vs. World War Score beta, with the next test set to run from August 11 through September 4. The studio is still trying to move WvW scoring away from passive point gain and toward actions players can directly push, like taking objectives, fighting enemy players, and contesting territory.
In a new official post, the team said the second beta landed better than the first, which had stripped out most passive scoring and left defense feeling under-rewarded. Beta 2 brought back some value for holding upgraded objectives, especially when other teams were interacting with them, instead of letting every held objective constantly trickle points.
ArenaNet shared a rough breakdown from the second test: objective captures made up about 30% of total score, player combat about 25%, progress ticks about 5%, and holding objectives about 15% once tier upgrades were included.
The third beta will make several more adjustments:
- Points from guard kills are being removed.
- Player count and objective type/tier scaling multipliers are being removed.
- Placement-based match rewards and skirmish rewards are coming back.
- Defensive player kills will award boosted points.
- An in-game breakdown will show where War Score is coming from during matches.
The team is also still looking at dolyaks and supply deliveries, though it isn’t making a specific scoring change for them in this test. More balance details are expected closer to the beta.
After the beta period wraps, ArenaNet plans to use the data to decide which parts of the revised scoring system should stick. The in-game score breakdown and placement-based rewards sound like likely candidates to stay, but the final WvW scoring setup hasn’t been locked in yet.
