Free-to-Play Fantasy RPG Elderwood Launches in Steam Early Access
Elderwood, a free-to-play online fantasy RPG from The GameWerkz and publisher BLÜ Games, launched into Steam Early Access on October 29, 2026. Steam lists it as a massively multiplayer RPG, with a blocky low-poly fantasy style and a focus on skill-based progression.
The game starts players in Greenhaven and lets them build their character through activities rather than a fixed class path. Combat, gathering, crafting, fishing, mining, cooking, and other skills can be trained up to level 99, with players working toward better gear and access to more dangerous areas.
Combat mixes automatic attacks with manual choices like swapping equipment, using food or potions, casting magic, and playing bard songs to support nearby allies. Elderwood also includes clans, capturable keeps, and PvP regions such as Darkwood, where dying can mean dropping carried items and gold.
For players leaning into the MMO side, the Early Access build includes quests, group raids, endgame gear goals, leaderboards, banking, inn homes, and an NPC-run Bazaar for trading. The developers are positioning the launch as an active development period shaped by player feedback.
Elderwood is free to play, with optional purchases. The in-game shop includes cosmetic capes and titles, mini pets that provide small gathering XP bonuses, and extra character slots.
