Fallout 76’s Slasher Update Adds PS5 and Xbox Series Versions, Legacy Seasons

Fallout 76’s The Slasher update is live as of September 15, bringing a new fall-themed story, native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, changes to unique gear crafting, and the start of Season 26, Beware The Blood Moon.

The headline addition is The Slasher, a multi-week in-game storyline about a cult stirring up trouble across Appalachia. Bethesda says players should tune into The Debunker Radio through the Pip-Boy, starting with the “Breaking News” broadcast station, to follow each new part as it rolls out.

  • Native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are now available through each platform’s store.
  • Players need to redownload the full game to access the current-gen version.
  • The new versions target 60 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro.
  • 4K support is available on compatible displays for Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, and PS5 Pro.
  • VRR is supported on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro, capped at 60 FPS on compatible displays.
  • PS5 and PS4 Pro support 1440p, while older platforms remain at 1080p.

The update also introduces Legacy Seasons, which let Bethesda bring back one older season alongside the active one. These use the same ticket pool as the current season, so players will need to choose how they spend their rewards. The first returning season is Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in Cold Steel, with Season 10, Red Rocket “Across America” Presents: The City of Steel, planned for the Winter update after a community vote.

Unique weapons and armor are getting more flexible too. Players can now change Legendary Mods on unique items and add a fourth Legendary Mod. Crafting those unique items at a workbench now requires Vault Steel, along with updated Legendary Module and Scrip costs.

Season 26, Beware The Blood Moon, is also live with spooky-season rewards. Fall seasonal fish will begin appearing on September 22.
