Destiny 2’s Monument of Triumph Update Brings Back SRL, Gambit Ops, and Director-Focused Changes

Bungie has shared a first look at Destiny 2’s upcoming Monument of Triumph update, the game’s final live-service content update planned for June. The update shifts more activity selection back into the Director, refreshes older destination loot, and brings back a few long-requested modes, including Sparrow Racing League.

According to Bungie’s developer blog, the Director will once again sit at the center of the experience, with Kepler, the Lawless Frontier, and the Sol system all accessible there. Bungie is also revisiting loot from destinations released before Edge of Fate, adding newer perk options, tiered weapons in non-craftable pools, and set bonuses tied to destination themes.

  • Patrol zones are getting “Distortions,” hourly events that make one destination more dangerous with tougher enemies and altered conditions.
  • Destination rewards will mainly come from public events and unique destination activities.
  • Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, and Arena Ops are being adjusted with simpler difficulty choices and fewer reward-related variables.
  • Onslaught, Contest of Elders, and The Coil are being reworked, with their difficulty curves returning so early waves ease players in before scaling up.
  • Gambit is being folded into the Director as Gambit Ops, with its own tiered reward pool and new items to chase.
  • Heavy Metal is returning with new vehicles and customization options, while Sparrow Racing League comes back with classic maps and a new themed track.

The difficulty changes sound aimed at cutting down some of the modifier juggling players have had to do to get worthwhile rewards. Bungie says difficulty selection will now come with a default reward rank, so players shouldn’t need to stack extra modifiers just to make an activity worth running.

Bungie says more details are still coming. For now, Monument of Triumph looks like a wrap-up update built around keeping the Director busy, making old activities more rewarding, and giving longtime Destiny 2 players a few returning favorites before active live-service development winds down.
