Camelot Unchained Hits Steam Early Access as NDA Drops

Camelot Unchained is now available on Steam Early Access, opening the long-running MMORPG project to players beyond its original backer crowd. The move also comes with the game’s NDA being lifted, so players can now share impressions, footage, and details from the current build.

The base game is listed on the Steam page for $9.99. For now, that version includes all races, classes, and content released so far. Existing backers and new Steam players will play on the same server when servers are open. The game hit a peak of 482 players over the last 24 hours, which is not great for a game that’s been in development since its 2015 Kickstarter.

The early access page mentions that servers will ONLY be online during weekends:

It is crucial to note that at this point in Early Access, our servers are only available over the weekends – this will typically mean from every Friday afternoon to every Monday afternoon in the UTC-4 timezone

Unchained Entertainment says the current low price is meant to help bring in more players while covering server costs and other ongoing expenses. The price is expected to go up later in development.

The studio also plans to split Early Access into two editions down the road. The base game will eventually become a more curated version with a smaller selection of races, classes, and content, aimed at giving new players an introductory experience. A separate War Unending Edition is planned to include everything released up to that point, including all races and classes, plus additional content leading toward full launch.

Camelot Unchained has been in development for years, with a focus on large-scale realm-vs-realm PvP and a classically styled MMORPG structure. The team recently shared a new roadmap, and major updates are still planned for roughly once a month.
